ETA: I forgot a subject
Jun. 11th, 2010 12:00 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
For the past two days, I have had data entry, which I finally just finished. *rawr* Luckily, everything else is slightly less rawr. I woke up to only mild bitching from my girl bits, and in a few days should even stop hemorrhaging from them. My car is running. Papa proceeds well. The coffee pot has been replaced by one from The Other House. (It is a long, long story, but basically we have a whole second house on the property that no one lives in for various reasons. It's kind of creepy, and reminds me of Roanoke a bit. There's still a glass on the coffee table, but whatever was in it is long gone.) Pepper/Natasha is slightly less blocked. I have achieved two squares on H/C Bingo, and will attempt a third today.
Beta? Anyone? They are short. (dangles) Pica!Tony and a bit of Natasha/Pepper that won't fit in the story.
All in all, I am notably in a better mood. :D I haven't growled at anyone today! The only downer right now is that my aunt has asked me to put my credit on the line to purchase a riding lawn mower. Just so this is in context, we currently have at least 5. All of them are broken ("but they'll be fixed one day!"), because they're badly misused. One of them lasted only three months in winter. And I'm supposed to purchase a sixth and trust that she'll handle the payments, when her husband keeps screwing everyone else's credit over by ignoring his own bills. (And of course, if I say "no", I'm an ungrateful bitch who doesn't remember/care how much trouble she went through when I was a kid to make sure I could visit. Can't forget that—the only reason to be nice to people is so they'll owe you. Family Unfriendly Aesop!) I have an appointment to meet her in a half-hour. Hopefully, this will fail miserably.
In the writing meta (still untitled), I have two written up roughs, and am considering jumping to headers & betaing. Betaing is a current topic, since Cap_Iron had a post on concrit recently, and... Well, what is a beta except really good, deliberate, begged for concrit pre-posting? On top of that, it's important now, since people are hardly going to wait months for me to bestow my questionable wisdom before writing/posting. Whereas setting/characterization/etc are the sort of thing you have to think about while you do it. It just feels a bit backwards, since that's post-writing work and I'm starting at the beginning on everything else. Grah!
As a contrast to Cap_Iron's ancient November 2009 post on beta reading, I was thinking of offering up one of my own shorts as an example. Five hundred words, ruthlessly posted on LJ in all their unpolished glory, with the beta notes included (with permission from the beta, of course). Beta reading is hard, and everyone's different in how they handle it and what they expect. So I figure, the academic approach is good, but sometimes an example is good too, you know?
Also, will someone please stop me from signing up for
werewolfbigbang. Please? It's four months to write 10k, which is easy-peasy if it would just stay 10k. But Pepper!femslash is going to be 20k (I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE 10k!!!), Amensia!Tony2 is going to be 20-30k probably, then Vamp!Tony2 will be another Huge Fic Of Pain and Angst and I can't forget girl!Steve2...

Date: 2010-06-12 12:17 am (UTC)I am not sure she helped.
I nearly suggested we coauthor on the Werewolf Bang, but I am reasonably certain that would not help either of us in our troubles.
Re: ENABLER
Date: 2010-06-12 06:43 pm (UTC):D I have never co-written and would totes be up for trying it, but you want growly territorial Steve, right? I was planning Ult Tony the Urban Werewolf.
Re: ENABLER
Date: 2010-06-12 10:37 pm (UTC)I really do want growly Steve. Ah, well. Next time! Is this the one we discussed where Steve pours his heart out to Tony's "dog"? :D
Re: ENABLER
Date: 2010-06-12 10:39 pm (UTC)No, this time! :D Yes, and it's not going well, I have a thousand words of Steve and Tony going for walkies and it's alarmingly silly.
Re: ENABLER
Date: 2010-06-12 10:53 pm (UTC)XD Do you have an outline on the plot? I thought you were thinking of making this an exercise in Outlining A Story And Then Following That Outline.
Re: ENABLER
Date: 2010-06-12 10:54 pm (UTC)Uh... turns out, for outlines? You need to know what the heck you're doing. So I just started typing and hoped a plot would appear.
Re: ENABLER
Date: 2010-06-12 11:05 pm (UTC)That is the sort of thing that will make Epic Fic of Epic appear! D: What is Tony's wolfy background? How will Steve find out? Do you have any super hero stuff going on, or is this all Them? (Attempts to make you outline)
Re: ENABLER
Date: 2010-06-12 11:08 pm (UTC)I dunno, during a fight, a bit but not so's anyone would care. Are you G-chattable at the moment?

Date: 2010-06-12 12:30 am (UTC)I'm doing the h/c bingo thing, so I'm turning out short fics daily if at all possible. Right now I have a ~500 word thing, but Eating Disorder Tony is not likely a good choice, even though it's not the usual ED. (Thinks) Pretty much none of the prompts Valtyr got out of me over winter were beta'd, and they were mostly pretty short, but something unlisted would be best... (rambles) I am sure I could come up with something. The h/c bingo card has a few that are pretty safe. Sprained muscles might work, or maybe nausea. Both of those should be fairly safe.
This has induced thinky thoughts! :D TL;DR I AM WILLING IF YOU ARE.

Besides, you can always turn Steve into a werewolf in Vamp!Tony2, and allow them to ride off into the supernatural moon glow together. See? Much better. :D

Date: 2010-06-11 08:34 pm (UTC)>_> I thought of that, but Steve has already been Infected With Vampire, and there will be Consequences from that. So I sort of have to deal with it first.
Unless Werewolf is a cure for Vampire.no subject
Date: 2010-06-11 08:40 pm (UTC)I don't think even you could swing that, though you can follow Valtyr's suggestion and have the SSS be based on Werewolf. Werewolf could cancel out Vampire, thus "curing" it, but the new infusion is strong enough that the secondary traits start coming out? Given how you set up Vampire, I think that's just about the only way to go.BTW, there is 3K more of genderswitch than there was at this time yesterday. And more to come. I am trying to clean, and keep drifting back to the computer, because I am weak. At least if genderswitch is open I might get something done, instead of being angry at FIFA that they will not stream World Cup games.

Date: 2010-06-11 08:48 pm (UTC)It depends on how Werewolf works. Vampire Virus would be weakened from fighting Steve's Super Soldier Immune System, so an infusion of Werewolf Virus would easily be able to attack and finish off the rest of the Vampire Virus. By then, Steve's immune system would be so compromised that he wouldn't be able to fight off the Werewolf Virus. It would sort of be like what would happen with Vampire Virus if it won; Steve would be a normal human until the effects of the Virus kicked in. With Vampire, that wouldn't be until he died, but with Werewolf it would only be the next full moon. So it's workable. Also, Valtyr suggested having Erksine have bitten Steve and the SSS was to counteract that. I suggested basing the SSS on it. We were sharing halves of a brain, I think.*cackle* GOOD! Let there be more genderswitch in the world. :D Cleaning is dull anyway. Down with it!

Date: 2010-06-11 09:53 pm (UTC)Waaaat, you mean you're not going with the Harry Potter-style enhanced senses and whatnot? If the SSS is based on Werewolf and the SSS is working all the time, that means that Werewolf is always present and always affecting the host, much like Vampire. And then the host just has...an allergic reaction to the full moon, or something.Oh, God, it is over 8K. And I am stuck. Would you take a look at it at some point? The ending is not working for me.

Date: 2010-06-11 10:06 pm (UTC)Oh no no no Werewolf would always be in effect after the first Full Moon. That would just be a catalyst for the end of the incubation period possibly triggered by lunar gravity the way some animals are. (There would need to be research. I might even divorce it biologically from the full moon, but that wouldn't be as much fun.) I would probably tie the length of incubation into Werewolf biology. Shorter incubation would be less moon-crazy and more human, longer would be stronger Wolf but less sane. I wouldn't want to tie it to the SSS in Ultimate Vampire for one reason, and his name is Nick Fury. That would just complicate things like crazy.Edited because typing with my thumbs means I post too fast. I'll take a look at it as soon as I get home, or if Papa takes a nap. Right now, he's almost done being bathed. I am grateful not to be involved in that this time.

Date: 2010-06-11 10:32 pm (UTC)Nick Fury is part of the group of Super Soldiers who did not work out, though. Steve's the only truly successful subject, yeah? The difference: WEREWOLF! They were getting desperate and tried something new. Problem solved!Whenever you have time! It is not urgent. :D

Date: 2010-06-11 10:46 pm (UTC)Nick was the only one to survive, except that he escaped, and then they went on to create Steve. It sort of implies that Steve and Nick got the same serum, though I suppose there could be a difference. The inevitable alpha battle between Nick and Steve might be worth dealing with werewolf!Fury. Or, actually, if the Werewolf Virus is only at part-strength, making sure Cap has the effects without the fur, I could keep the Battle of the Viruses. Cap's immune system and Vampire take each other out, giving the weakened Werewolf a chance to finish changing him. Werewolves would have to be very very very rare, though, or I could never manage to get away with not having any sign of fur in the first one. Or maybe it's a politics thing. There will be much political stuff going on.:D Happy to help!

Date: 2010-06-13 12:19 am (UTC)Nick was subject 41, and Steve is subject 55--awful lot of failure in between, no? Experimentation doesn't just keep trying the same thing over and over, they had to have altered it, particularly with such a wide gap between subjects. Though, I went back and looked at the dates listed in UO1 and UO2, and Fury gets arrested and experimented on late to mid 1943, and Steve trots across Times Square in 1942...which if the US has entered the war is either early or late 1942, since it's snowing. So, um, there is already weirdness going on! And looking at Ultimate Origins 2, it seems like Steve undergoes a lot of prep and surgery before he gets injected, as well. I say that this leaves the door wide open for a touch more werewolf to be in Steve's formula. :DAm looking at it now!

Date: 2010-06-13 03:10 am (UTC)I think it's safe to say that Origins just Didn't Do The Research on a lot of things. Even within themselves. Fury would have had to be tested on after America entered the war, though, considering his back story, and Steve was posited to have been changed at the very beginning I think. Maybe with Fury, they were trying to have a serum that didn't have any of the Werewolf in it at all. Synthetic or something. I am very much leaning towards this as its own story. IDK, we shall see how the fics call. No New Stories until the old ones are doneno subject
