ETA: OH, LOOK! POLICIES. And [livejournal.com profile] legomymalfoy did indeed win.

Well, the election's over. I think [livejournal.com profile] legomymalfoy won, but we won't know for sure until the votes are tallied. Hopefully LJ will make a post in [livejournal.com profile] news saying they're tallying and addressing the various rumors that are flying around.

I'm not going to say what order my votes were in, but I did vote the fandom block. Honestly, I know that maybe one member of my flist is interested in this, but it helps me to layout my thoughts in type.

I didn't vote the fandom block because they're fandom, though it helped. It's the same way I'd be more likely to vote for someone who donated to Planned Parenthood. Maybe they don't have exactly the same stance as me, but there's a connection there that at least suggests a similarity. In this case, my major concerns were content control (that is, I'm against it) and communication. I voted accordingly, and the people I felt best likely to represent my concerns were also in fandom.

You know, there's really two ways this can turn out, no matter how it goes. This could be a scapegoat position, which will pretty much make their statement and be ignored, then be blamed. I doubt, because the userbase has always served fine as a scapegoat before, and the Advisory Board is almost definitely going to be posting in their personal journals about their stance on certain issues—especially since there will be two (three counting Dana) users on-board. There's not going to be any easy way to hide when LJ goes against an Advisory Board decision if it all blows up.

The other option is that LJ users will see an increase in things we want and a decrease in things we don't. Think over the last year (I keep boggling that this has been a whole year of drama already) and really consider the source of all the major kerfuffles.

BoobieGate: Business decision made that somehow a female nipple is inappropriate as a default icon. I still don't know how to differentiate between a male nipple and a female nipple.
Strikethrough: Business decision that "Interests" is synonymous with "Likes". I still don't know who misplaced the Webster's.
Boldthrough: Business decision to remove all forms of underaged pornography, including art. I still don't know how Harry Potter needs to be protected from The Bad People.
Linkthrough: Business decision to treat links to content as hosted content. I still don't know where they left their Logic Wheel.
InterestGate: No explanation given.
InterestGate 2: No explanation given.
BasicGate: Business decision to remove the ability to create basic accounts. I still don't know how they think they'll get new users.

Does anyone else see a pattern? Hopefully, with a group of go-to people, this sort of mess can be prevented. A user, at the very least, will be able to say, "Sure, go ahead, if you want to piss everyone off." I don't doubt that things like basic wouldn't have happened anyways, but the spin could have been a lot better. A user would be able to say definitely, "this will help them understand. They'll be pissed, but not feel attacked."

Clearly, I'm hoping for option 2.

At the same time, I want to pull my hair out a little because... This is important. It's so important, to me and to a lot of other people. LJ is our home, and this would be a more direct way of speaking to our lease-holders about our concerns. But... come on, this amount of mudslinging from the supporters has been ridiculous. Admittedly, not all the candidates have comported themselves well, but the supports have made me headdesk more than once in this past week. And death threats? What kind of moron thought that one up? This is important, but very few things are that important. I'd rather lose LJ altogether than have a single person die.

I'm not even sure how to express my thoughts on that one coherently. Everytime I try, I throw my hands in the air and give up. It's just... SO STUPID. It makes me ashamed to be a member, to think that I might possibly have some six-degrees connection to whoever did this.

Serious fail guys. Just when we needed to be mature and competent. No wonder the owners think we're all psycho.

(hugs) Maybe next time. Erm, not that I supported him, honestly, but there's always time for him to do something that makes me change my mind?

tbh i'm just vaguely annoyed that lj totally rejected the idea that a large proportion of [livejournal.com profile] legomymalfoy's votes are sockpuppets, despite people in her camp admitting it was true. i'm not saying [livejournal.com profile] jameth is without sockpuppet votes, but i'd rather it be a bit more transparent, you know? plus her position on the abuse team kinda bothers me since i'm not a massive fan of theirs.

Yeah, I'm worried about the sock-puppet accusations too. :\ Even if LJ cracked down hard on it behind the scenes, it makes the whole election shaky unless we're told exactly what's going on and how it's being handled. Ignoring it just makes everything worse.

As far as "a large proportion", I'm not sure about that. I've seen links to people saying they did it, but without having the numbers on hand I tend to doubt it. Almost everyone has multiple accounts, but the ones I saw claimed things like 70, and that's... insane. There can't be more than a handful of people with those numbers. But still... It's all fishy and sad, no matter how you spin it.

I think I re-counted my position on the Abuse Team thing somewhere in a post or comment... (Sweatdrop) But I took that as a good thing, since it means she's already familiar with things. (shrug) Still, done is done. I just wish LJ would address the concerns and I know they won't. *sigh* Which is why we need an Advisory Board, isn't it?

i'm not suggesting that the majority [livejournal.com profile] legomymalfoy's votes were sockpuppet votes, or that she wouldn't have won if the sockpuppets were discounted, but i do think a significant number of votes came from secondary/tertiary/whatever the seventieth would be accounts and, as you said, without lj looking into it, it kinda destroys the whole transparent election thing they had going on.

but i guess i'm just in the slightly uncomfortable "winner does not represent me, yo" camp at the moment. i already have issues with the new policy announcements, though i'm sure i'm in the minority on that.

Yeah. On the plus side, I think most people use the same e-mail when creating accounts, so at least a lot of those got canned.

Which policies bother you? I've only skimmed them so far, but I haven't seen much that makes me go up in flames.
