Harry Potter:To the End

Posting from my phone at the theater for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. We caught a double feature, yay us, and my cough has managed to not be too disruptive. But I think I'm going to cry. You just don't get huge Fandom events like this often. I'm going to miss it more than I thought possible. Even if I can find people to go see Cap with me next week, it won't be the same.

I'm holding out hope that we get some decent gay text for Dumbledore and Grindelwald. The movies have made their fortune, maybe the director will make my night. (If we do or don't, regardless, I will post it under a spoilers cut I promise.) It would be nice for the movies to be better than JKR.

I'll pour out a shot for everyone tonight. Here's to the end of an era. To steal a line from the Brits on my circle, cheers!

Oh, god, I know what you mean about the big fannish events.

I've never been massively into Harry Potter but I queued up outside the bookshop at midnight for the release of the last one because it was the last one. And I even did it on my own because none of my RL friends are remotely fannish! (Which is why I'll be going to see Cap on my own. Bah.)

It's the end of an era, man. WAAHHH!

It reminds me of wincon. (Hello, cheap plug!) A bunch of fans all gathered together for one big event of fannishness, and it's entirely possibly to discuss something like Dumbledore vs. Gandalf without someone giving you the stinckeye. D: Except it takes hundreds of dollars and plans in order to do conventions. HP was beautifully easy to work with.

I've done HP regularly for books and movies for the past five years or so, and I haven't been deeply in the fandom for at least the last three. It's just... an Event! You go because you go, even if you've stopped haunting the fic rec lists. (flail)

I will likely be going to see Cap alone, because my Harry Potter people are Potter-only, and can't be dragged out at midnight on a Thursday for Captain America. :( It will be weird, adjusting.

I went to Wincon when it was Winchestercon, the year it was in LA! I was very tempted this year but a) it clashes with connotations (cheap plug!) and b) I can only afford to go if it's a city I can get cheap flights to. New Orleans is surprisingly costly to get to. Dammit.

But, yes, Connotations has exactly the same thing! It's AWESOME. And not just Dumbledore vs. Gandalf but Dumbledore/Gandalf and who'd top and what they'd do and how staffs and wands would be involved. And which of them would get pregnant and which of them is secretly an elf and how they'd get stranded in a Canadian shack.

Wincon has gotten only better in the years since LA. Perhaps you can make the next one. D: I suspect it's the international aspect? New Orleans has always been relatively cheap to fly in from every time I've needed to. (This year I am driving, FTR.)

YES. I would ship it. Though I ship Grindelwald/Dumbledore more. ¬.¬ Angsty love. All over the place. Wincon is lovely that way too. All comers welcome!

We were there, in costume, and... I'm glad we were. We had to do it one last time, and I'm nostalgic already. :(

Saaaaaame. D: I considered seeing it again over the weekend, but it's like... No. I got such an emotional high from seeing it opening night, with a theater of people who knew the material and cried at all the same points and knew all the terrible jokes... Seeing it as a Normal Person would just be a let down. :(

From what I understand, Pottermore is mostly JKR's notes and the books being available in eBook format? Which I'm a bit meh on. The writing really started slipping towards the end, and I don't want to have my fanon dashed even more than it already has been.

I am only interested in learning about what she originally intended for Crookshanks. I felt so let down by what was penned about the Maru of Potterverse. (Mrs. Norris whooo?) I think JK let her story carry her away, which will lead to brilliance or disappointment. That Epilogue, that fucking epilogue.

Tee-hee! I found it last night when I was looking for True Blood previews for next week. It is shiny with magnificence. <3
