Wrapping up!

LIFE! I can pretend to have it! Or something that almost resembles it! \o/

In other words, I finished the rough draft. :D It clocks out at roughly 53k. I honestly thought there would be more to it, but then it just sort of went "okay, done!" and that was that. What, you wanted exacts? Okay, exactly 53,253 words, so I wrote 2,983 words tying this mess up. And then immediately lost about 500 words going back and removing the bits I had highlighted for Do Not Want. I still have some things left to do before setting it aside to simmer for a while. It doesn't feel like I started it a few weeks ago. @.@ Today I mostly fleshed out a few scenes, changed some details that honestly I will only ever care about and removed a shiny vampire power that I consistently forgot about except when I didn't. The only things I really have to do are touch up Pepper's character (it's a little inconsistent), double check some details (damnit Google Maps, be useful!), and systematically wipe out all traces of contractions from my Main Female Villain's dialogue. I may (may) add in a villain wrap up scene; I can't decide if it needs one or not. Eep! And I'm a little concerned that the final scene is too... I don't want to say fluffy. Soppy? Maybe. IDK.

It's really, really weird thinking of this as "rough draft done". A tiny little part of my brain keeps flagging me down and going, "Too soon, too soon!" Tomorrow if I finish with the editing I'm going to try and get started on my cap_ironman holiday prompts. (I have to choose, what?! This is hard already!) >.>

DRAMA. ACTION. STEVE BEING RIDICULOUSLY GR-FACE. I have a feeling this may be melodramatic and cheesy!

Steve pulled his sleeve down. It would help keep pressure on the bite until he could get it bandaged. When he stood, he kept Tony cradled in his arms, glaring at Thor when he made as though he'd take him. "We'll find her later. We need to get Tony somewhere safe before dawn. Someone call transport."

Potts flashed her cellphone, thumb already slapping the keys. Her eyes were locked on Tony, and worry set deep lines in her makeup. She still hadn't put her shoes back on, and she was covered in gore up to the ankles. "I've got it. Just keep him going, Rogers. If he dies again, I'll never forgive you."

Last scene. VERY LAST SCENE. (falls over) The schmoop hurts, I swear, but I couldn't figure out any other way to end it. I think Tony's voice is going to need editing, but in his defense, he's still getting over the whole "coughing up his inner bits" thing, and fully expects Steve to be all serious faced and breaking up. I have no excuse for the abuse of adverbs.

"Do you mind?" Tony frowned back as sternly as he could. "You're blocking my view of the ceiling."

That was the exasperated roll of the eyes he knew so well. Unfortunately, the sarcasm failed. Steve settled down against Tony's chest, practically pinning him down. No weight pushed against him, for which Tony was terribly grateful since his aches were still present, but he blocked him in with chest and arms. If Tony wanted free, he'd have to wiggle for it.

"I think I want to stay here." Steve's face was absolutely solemn. "Your bed is more comfortable than mine."

I have once in my life slept on a memory foam bed, and dear gods. You'd never get me out of the thing.

They've gone over the "¬¬ Well, if I'm sleeping here all night then I'll need to keep some clothes here" discussion, which is basically the equivalent of asking for a drawer. I wonder how many people will be not shocked.

D'aww. I so want more established relationship Ult Steve/Tony fics, there's only about three of them. (I can think of two by me and one by Jazz. This will be the fourth!) I want Steve and Tony negotiating (really indirectly) over where they sleep over! The momentous day when Steve buys a second toothbrush to keep at Tony's! Tony dragging Steve on holiday with him! The pair of them sneaking around trying to hide it from the press! Tony quietly replacing Steve's entire wardrobe with nicer clothes while Steve tries to work out what happened to all his I <3 NY T-shirts! Fights over whether Tony is allowed to give Steve presents worth more than Steve's apartment! Tony convincing Steve that thongs are standard beachwear in the 21st century! Steve making stupidly obvious excuses to come by and visit Tony every day!

The establishing of this one will be unique, to say the least. Tony's whole schedule is about to flip, and Steve is already making grumpy noises in my head about "staying up all night" and such. But it's not like Tony can help it, so I think he'll keep his grump to a minimum. And bagged/fresh/Steve meals are going to be hotly debated. (Regardless of what Steve thinks, Tony insists that there is a difference between bagged blood and fresh blood and he wouldn't want Tony to wither away from malnutrition, would he?)

Aw d'aww, Steve is already planning to stay up all night. :D How cute. Perhaps they can compromise, and still spend all night in bed. STILL it will not be too bad, Steve is used to an erratic schedule, Tony is in a position to teleconference, and can insist his meetings are held in light-sealed rooms. Also, presumably the armour can be light-sealed.

I cannot see Steve being anything but >:[ about Tony wanting to suck on other people. Because the biting is very sexy. However, I do want to see him try to explain why Tony can't bite anyone else while trying not to explain that the biting is very sexy.

He is! I get the feeling that Tony no longer has to sleep except when he's wounded, which means he can get all those "stuck indoors doing paperwork/designing things that go boom/being responsible" things out of the way, and then have all night to enjoy fresh air and open sky and semi-public sex with Steve the like. So Steve can sleep while Tony works. It's very convenient.

He can insist on unsexy places. Inner elbow. Wrists. Not ankles, because then Tony would probably say something about a foot fetish and Steve would have to make everyone in New York stop painting their toenails. Tony would enjoy teasing him about it—dancing around the topic in faux innocent confusion and inwardly gleeful that Steve's face is only a few shades away from matching his armor.

Steve can then demonstrate that very few parts of the body are unsexy when someone attractive is sucking on them. The inner elbow? Very sensitive, rarely touched skin. Lots of nerves in the wrist, and I bet Tony has sensitive hands.

Perhaps they can experiment with biting Steve in lots of different places to find out which is the least sexy. Tony can make a graph.

It's like an easter egg hunt. "Find the unsexy body part". This will be particularly difficult for Tony.

They can make recordings and compare decibel levels between body parts. Tony would have to suck on known erogenous zones, as a control. (Steve is so going to end up with bite marks on his ass.)

Skin temperature, pulse rate, there's all kind of tests they can do. Ass, inner thigh, lower belly, wrists. For science. He's going to have bitemarks everywhere. Tony will be filled with glee. Steve is actively encouraging him to leave possessive marks all over.

Tony says that he has eternity and a surprising amount of patience. He's only foiled if he gives up. "Here, Steve, I think I need to check you again, the back of your knees are starting to look a little unappealing. I'd better suck on them to make sure."

Not only the biting, but it's also an excuse to string Steve all over with all sorts of monitoring devices and then with the biting. It's like technoporn. I bet he'll go back and listen to Steve's heart rate go from steady to spiked to resting later while watching the graphs move.

But Tony isn't biting other people, so Steve's gotten what he wanted I guess? And I suspect after being bitten on the back of the neck a few times, with Tony draped over him and humping him, bottoming will start to have more appeal. Everyone wins, I guess.

Tony thinks that this is an acceptable compromise, though he's still a bit XP on the bagged blood. He says it tastes stale. But regular noms on Steve will have to do.

Tony's a complete geek, even if Ults Tony manages to hide it behind that suave urbanite exterior. Probably the only thing he thinks is hotter than a naked Steve is a naked Steve hooked up to technology.

Well, I guess Tony can afford to hire a nurse and equipment and get the blood decanted right there? It doesn't have to be sitting around for hours or anything. :) And he can always have just a little nibble on Steve afterwards to clear the taste.

Mmm... I dunno. Naked Steve on the hood of his favourite car? Naked Steve snuggling with the Iron Man armour? Tony's an imaginative man, and I don't think he's above gilding the lily.

He probably could. And then Steve can be jealous that Tony's nurse will inevitably be dressed in a tiny little miniskirt and will have supercleavage. Tony's master plan looks something like: 1) Make Steve incredibly possessive. 2) Profit. 3) Repeat step 1.

He has to give it all a try, just so that he can be sure it's good. Sometimes two or three tries just to be safe.
