birthdays, costumes and tattoos, oh my

I once swore to myself that I'd get better at LJ birthdays lol. So here's to remembering! Happy Birthday, kijikun!

In other news, I finally remembered that Halloween is coming up and I need a costume! I was planning on going as Pepper, because that's a nice Work Safe sort of costume. It doesn't get much more Work Safe than a business suit and maybe an arc reactor. Oh, and freckles. I'm already a redhead. But then it turns out that Halloween falls on a Saturday! HUZZAH! Of course, this also means that I have to find something to do on Halloween, but I'll worry about that later. Costume first.

Well, I went looking and guess what I found? Okay, so they're only gender-bent Cap-ish, but they're women's costumes, so there's only so much I can or am willing to do. But how horrible is it that I keep staring at their masks and going, "COWL. Not mask. COWL. And for gods sakes, it's supposed to be blue with wings! Not silver!" I do like the peek-a-boo star cut out on the third and predictably most expensive, though. I'd totally make my own, except my resources include time money sewing ability, which means purchasing ahoy. (No matter what, if I do go as Cap, I'm definitely changing the mask. Even gluing wings on a blue domino mask would be better!)

Geez, WinCon is coming up too. :o I need to figure out hotel arrangements. I can afford to pay for my own this year (only staying three nights, BOO), but cost defraying is always good. I'm not planning anything for WinProm other than a pretty dress—I don't even know what I'd do for the theme lol. And tattoo is still an option, as far as I know. (Though jadeate and clex_monkie89 and I need to decide what we're getting still! Hellos? Peoples? I need to visit the MSN chat more.)

Worth noting: some folks around my undisclosed location are ALSO doing gender-bent superhero ensembles this year. I shall be Girl!Cap, lupus_dragon will be Girl!IM, and cursor_mundi will be Girl!Thor. So I'm also in the "buy it!" camp rather than the cleverer camps of my companions. And I also hate the Girl!Cap mask.

I would love to do Girl!IM, except that calls for more time, effort and money than I have to work with. Possibly even more so than girl!Cap, since most variations of that are pretty simple to buy and adjust patterns for. What is with the mask? Did they just decide to slap wings and an A on it willy-nilly?

You now need a Giant Girl and Boy!Wasp to complete your set. :D

LOL They do look stripperiffic, don't they? Of course, most Halloween costumes and super heroine costumes do. But if you go more true-to-Cap, you get American Dream (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Dream_(comics)) (though probably Muggles won't recognize her). Can't win!
