Diet time?

Okay, so I've been psuedo-dieting for a while now... I cut back on soda most of the time, started eating low-cal dinners and meal replacement bars. Switched breakfast cereal with oatmeal. Stopped snacking so much. The usual "not really into this" attempt, if I'm to be totally honest. No real exercise, both from lack of time and lack of interest. And it's not bad, really. I started around April/May last year and have managed to go from 180 to 168 to 160. There have been some ups and downs, but it's coming on a year and there's been less "down" than I like, lol.

No, I don't have before and afters. >.>

Anyways, I've decided to really put some effort into this. I'm going to give this diet a shot starting next Sunday. (I say Sunday because I keep my food separate from my family's and I can't afford to not eat it.) The plan sums up like this:
  1. No white carbs. (Bread, pasta, cereal, etc.)
  2. Don't drink the calories.
  3. Protein & veggies aplenty.
  4. Don't sweat the animal fat.
  5. Let yourself go one day a week.

In other words, this completely changes what I've been eating, which is oatmeal, little meat and as many veggies as come in a Healthy Choice entree (which are usually pasta-heavy and veggie-low).

So this week I'll be clearing out my food supply and replacing it with "good" food. I'll also find time to do Before pics, though those'll be posted private, probably. ^^; Not that I expect 30 days to make a huge difference visually, but since 160 and 140 are pretty significant numbers, it'll still give a reference for myself. I'm debating posting pounds. On one hand, daily checking will lower morale. But infrequent checking to see results might help. Assuming, of course, that there's results to mention.

I'm also going to impose a plan to make sure I stick with this. (That is, no ice cream binges on a Wednesday.) I'm going to start posting accountings of everything I ate Sunday through Friday. Saturday is my free day, so I'm not going to bother with that. But the rest of the week, you all have every right to make me account for each and every slip. And I'm very bad about slipping. So my camera will be by my side, and if I for some reason miss a pic, you all can whap me. At the very least, I'll post next-day. (Since I'm on dial-up at home and sometimes just don't have time to negotiate uploading pics.) If I have nutritional information on odd things (such as jerky), that'll go up too.

I'll also be posting my meal plan. Part of this is to keep to the same meals regularly, so once I figure out the Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner/Snack plan, you can hold me to that too, unless I have a reason to slip. (For example, subbing chicken for beef due to money.)

Any other ideas to help me stick with it? Especially ideas that deal with eating cheap on this plan? (I think I'm going to become good friends with the canned goods aisle...) My monthly maximum allotment for food is about $100-$150, less if I can manage it. (Honestly, I usually manage on about $50-$75, not including things bought for others or to share.)

Good luck! It sounds like a good diet. Just stick to the plan and you're own foods and it sounds like it should work (I have no idea really, it just sounds nifty in my head!) And I don't think I really ever introduced myself... *hits self* I found you somewhere on a KH group and you looked rather interesting so I added ya. Sorry for not telling you sooner! I feel all pervy and stalkerish now. >.

Thank you!

lol Well, just cutting calories had a basic effect (20lbs, yay!), but I still jiggle unwantedly. ^^; So maybe changing the types of calories will help. In any case, it can't hurt!

You may have found me on [livejournal.com profile] khyaoi? That's really the only group I'm kinda-sorta-almost active in. And don't feel stalkerish! I hide all my NC17 (thank you LJ x-x) behind flocks, so I'm kind of used to getting friended by people randomly. :3 Nice ta meetcha.

So you must have been reading my mind (I would suggest not doing that again, 'cause the last guy who did went crazy). I have totally been thinking about going on a diet ('cause I can't give up ice cream forever) because a lifestyle change isn't going to happen right now. But I am going to give up ice cream all this next month, and *sniff* my daily starbucks...WAAAH!!*clings* No, really I will. I'll do the whole before/after pictures (I'll show you mine If you show me yours *winks*) Plus bicycling and crunches, I'm going for 170, right now I am 195, for someone 6'2 I'm not fat by any means, but still need to trim down for, BIKINI SEASON EVERYONE! WHEEE!!! Also, have you seen that story on CNN about the polygamy compound being raided by the Gov.? It was like a day after you posted that essay/rant/article about polygamy. I am fascinated to see how it will turn out, although I do have my own ideas. Which reminds me, I need to do a little more posting on that one *scampers*

Mm, not quite really. If this works, it will be a lifestyle change. y second, since I think my current "diet", having lasted a year, is well past the diet stage. It it'd be a lifestyle change. An undocumented one, true, but one nonetheless. (shrug) I want to be healthier. Looking better nude would be an added bonus, yes, but it's not the whole goal. And really, I put no faith in diets, because after they're over and you return to your normal habits, you just regain the weight. The thing is that what you're maintaining at your current diet is a "steady" weight. What you eat now maintains it. A short-term diet (that is, one which doesn't involve a lifestyle change) will work by cutting calories and forcing your body to consume its own body fat, thus slimming you down. But when you go back, you'll start to resume your normal weight because it's what would be normal for your diet.

In other words, either change your whole lifestyle or you may as well give up before you start. That doesn't mean you have to give up all your goodies, but if you watch them, it makes a big difference.

And for the record, I am not and never will find myself doing anything for the sake of bikini season. I look like me; why should I try and match anyone else's ideal of what a woman should look like? That's really all bikini season (or any fashion, really) is about. If I diet, exercise or shave my head, it's because I want to, not because someone else thinks I should. If they don't think my flubbery white ass should be seen in a bikini, then they don't have to look at it.

... Sorry, that's just a sore point. I've gotten used to not being anything near the current definition of pretty, and I'm very sick of people thinking I should change who I am for the sake of anyone but me.

DOWN KITTY! *slashes whip* I understand how you could feel that way about bikini season, but you misunderstand me.(I'm so misunderstood! *teenage drama queen voice*) It's been quite awhile since I went and wore a bikini unabashedly. I just wanted this summer to be different, and I have a ton of clothing that is getting just a little too tight, in all the wrong places. (Camel toe..HOY!) There is nothing wrong with the clothing besides that, I can't afford a new wardrobe right now so..I guess it's not really even a diet, just cutting back on the *super calorie* foods I consume.
