PP and the Aurora Clinic

Hm. More political stuff, since LJ hasn't screwed up lately. (Beyond the ever-lasting silence, that is.)
Planned Parenthood, whom I'm a very big supporter of, is facing some difficulty with idiots trying to keep them from opening a clinic in Aurora, IL. The pro-lifers are at it again. *sigh* I know (or suspect, really) that not everyone on my flist is pro-choice, but even if you are, keep in mind that PP clinics offer more services than just abortion. In a lot of places, they're the only affordable sexual health care a lot of women have, and they're a great source for sexual education about diseases, condoms... the works. America has this overwhelming idea that sex is something dirty and wrong that needs to be hidden away. The result of this is that a lot of people don't know facts that they need to protect themselves, and not having those facts doesn't keep them from having sex. Abstinence-only education doesn't work. In fact, it's dangerous. People who participate in it are only virgins for a few months longer, and they're less likely to use birth control or condoms when they do have sex. (I can pull up the stats and figures for anyone who wants to argue.) PP helps these problems.
So please, even if you're pro-life, head over and sign the petition to show support. It's free, and if nothing else it'll mean a lot to the staff of the besieged clinic, who are probably feeling like the most hated people in the world right now. I encourage everyone to browse http://www.plannedparenthood.org in general, and maybe get involved if you feel strongly about the issues.
