tsukinofaerii: This is how I roll (Panda)

I am back from a full and eventful weekend. \o/ With exceptionally minimal hangover, I should add.

On Saturday, I spent most of the day doing Weekend Chores. Giving the litter box an extra scrub, shopping, laundry (there was lots of laundry) and essentially Being A Grown-Up. It was my Aunt and my brother's birthdays. I offered to take my aunt to a movie, and we settled on Shrek 4 on Sunday morning. On my way back from visiting Papa, I picked up vodka. (This is important.) Mary and I watched Shrek 2, and that was adorable.

Sunday, I woke up for the movie! Aaaaand my aunt bailed. :( She wasn't feeling well. So the movie was moved up to Monday, which was a federal holiday and therefore I did not have to work. I did some more laundry (as I said: there was lots) and generally kept busy until about 2. Then my cousin and her partner came over, and we all took off to buy explosives. :D We combined our spending money and ended up with a discount, because we were buying late on the 4th and we were buying lots. And almost all of it was artillery shells. You know, the ones the shoot up and go boom with the pretty colors? We also swung by Wal*Mart and picked up the necessities to party, including soda, ice and cranberry juice. Wal*Mart also had the full first season on Iron Man: Armored Adventures. You better believe I snapped that up.

After shopping, we had a Family Dinner. Ribs. Omnomnom. I had a martini—only managed to drink half of it, because dear gods, it was like what I imagine drinking rubbing alcohol would be like. D: Iiiick. Family dinner wasn't too bad. We had a lot of fun. We also visited Papa, since we were in town. He's doing okay. :\ There are issues with his foot, a cold and a rash on his back that we suspect is from being bed-bound for so long. We're working on it. Overall, it was a nice visit.

Once the night fell, we returned home for boom and attempted Liver Damage. Brittany (Cousin), Melanie (Cousin's Partner and DD for the evening) and I carted drinks, chairs and explosives out to the middle pasture around 9.30, and then proceeded to enjoy ourselves until about 1AM. Mary sat back and watched as we recklessly endangered anything within a 50 yard radius and the golf cart. Great fun was had by all. It was ridiculously hot, though, so I ended up running around in my bra, which covers more of me than my swimsuit anyway. [/justification] Around midnight, Brittany and Mary were waning, so they went inside and Melanie and I started combining setting the fireworks off in bundles. Yes, we still had a load left. The big finale ended up being seven shots of four artillery shells each. Fuuuuuun. Over the course of the evening, I had two only drinks and a shot, but the drinks were inanely loaded. Brittany also had a shot. Taken together, all of that took a half liter of vodka (so about 5oz per drink?). I managed to take a few pictures of the pretty, and will have to remember to post them. Once Melanie and Brittany went home, I swear I intended to stay awake and watch a movie, but I ended up collapsing into a zombie-like coma.

Monday was surprisingly less hangover-y than I expected. I mean that. I was able to roll out of bed at 10AM, make coffee and food, and then consume coffee and food. Mild headache and nausea, but that was it. After all the alcohol I had, I probably should have been curled around the toilet all night. (headscratch) The brand, if anyone cares, is Russian Standard, and it is very smooth. Not the best I've ever had, but I was able to half-and-half it with cranberry juice all night to minimal ill effect. Also in its favor is the price: about half that of Greygoose, and I am positive that I wouldn't have been nearly as well off with the Goose.

Anyway, after getting myself together and doing a few more loads of laundry, Mary and I were off to see Shrek 4 with Devon. Commentary on that down below. Once the movie was over, the three of us tooled over to visit with Papa, but he was in therapy. :\ So it wasn't much of a visit. We hung around for a while, and then headed home where I scrubbed the kitchen, finished laundry (angelic chorus goes here) and finally beat Portal. Then I tooled around online for a while and finally crashed, to wake up on Tuesday as the bright and cheery person before you. Now, for...

SPOILERS BELOW. ABANDON HOPE, ALL YE WHO ENTER.

Let me just say that I really loved the movie. It was adorable and mostly managed to avoid hitting my embarrassment squick. That being said, I feel like a terrible person. D: I liked Warrior Princess AU Fiona. I liked her a lot better than Standard Princess Fiona. I know that part of the franchise's point is that the story continues after marriage/kids/etc, and also to love yourself for you warts (and green skin) and all. So I really feel like I totally missed the point. It was a spin on It's a Wonderful Plot, so I was supposed to walk away (like Shrek) feeling like he was lucky to have the Wife & Ogrelets and the whole thing. But it just didn't work for me. The Ogre Resistance plot was so much more enthralling! And Fiona! "I rescued myself!" (fans) She was hot. Not just pretty and sort of awesome when the moment comes, but hot and take-change and omg so awesome and just kick ass! (flail) Why did I have to sit through four movies about Shrek feeling sorry for himself when I could have been watching Fiona kick asses and take names?

Don't get me wrong. I like the Shrek movies. They're cute, they've got good music, and I think they've got valuable lessons for the kiddies in them. But the Fiona AU plot was so much more interesting! (tugs hair) And I feel bad, because it basically means killing the Ogrelets and Shrek to get there. D: Not to mention all the other terrible things that happened. (They ate Gingy WTF! And what was with the witches being all subordinate to Rumple, while all the powerful people except Fiona were guys? I'm not even going into "the denizens of the medieval trailer park were all evil", because I do not want to throw things.) If the writers were going for "how much worse it would be without Shrek", they failed. All I saw was how much more awesome the story would have been if they'd focused on the Princess instead of the Hapless Everydude who wins her like a prize at a carnival.

I WANT MY WARRIOR PRINCESS FIONA PLOT DAMN IT! DO YOU HEAR ME DREAMWORKS?
