Emo whining ahead

I had a dentist appointment today! TERROR. I haven't seen a dentist in at least eight years. My parents straddled the poverty line for most of my life—they made too much to get state assistance, and not enough to actually afford my dental care on their own. Isn't the USA wonderful? (makes a face) Anyway, it was just a consultation. I get to apply for credit to see if I can afford to get my teeth fixed. Big sigh. The news was not unexpected. I have cavities! (I think I noticed that.) My teeth are crooked! (Also noticed that.) Overbite! (Yes, and...?) Need braces! (No shit, Sherlock?) Seriously. The dentist was a nice guy, but he acted like he expected me to be in denial or something. I spent a weekend flat on my back swishing whiskey to kill the pain not too long ago! I think I know that I need help. (When I told him that, he looked so confused, like alcohol as a painkiller is new news. It was hilarious.)
Dentist, in addition to being terrifying, was also awkward. I know my mouth isn't in good condition. I also know that, most likely, I'm not going to be able to afford to have it fixed any time soon. I also know that quite a bit of it isn't my fault—more than one of my problems are with fillings/crowns that were not well done when I last went in, and most of the rest are the result of a domino effect from my crooked teeth. Even though the dentist and assistants were very nice, it's still kind of humiliating to stare someone in the eye and say "what can I put off until I have money". I'm an adult now! I'm supposed to be able to do these things. Except I can't. :\ And my parents couldn't when it was their job, and that's just a sad statement on the state of the nation. Same for doctors; the only reason I ever went to one is because Doc Bayham was a family friend and would come see us if he got wind that we were holding out on him. (Also, he accepted partial payments instead of requiring a line of credit, which is vital when you have no/bad credit.)
In that vein, I can has health care nao?

Today I am going to try and hijack one of our scanners here at work. Yesterday we had an Epic Thunderstorm, so I wasn't able to take my usual walk up the driveway. (It's 2 miles round trip. Yes, I live in the middle of nowhere.) The result is that I actually finished the pencil work on some art! I just need to get it into a computer so that I can finish it up.
Finally, I have been playing If Today Was Your Last Day by Nickleback on eternal repeat for the past few days. It's just an awesome song, and it makes me feel good. :D I luffs it.
