tsukinofaerii: Basch lives! Don't listen to Ondore's lies! (Basch lives)
[personal profile] tsukinofaerii
Sleepy? Sleepy. Mmrm.

Okay, so I've been quiet lately. I really have no valid excuses, other than "lazy". I've been poking NaNoWriMo edits with a sharp stick (so.... close.... I hope D: ), actually went to the movies twice (!!!!), played a bit of Final Fantasy XII (coming up on 300 hours, oh gods) and generally let my brain turn to tasty tasty mush.

The movies seen were Princess and the Frog and Avatar. Princess and the Frog I adored. Naveen rocked. Tiana rocked. Everyone rocked, except maybe the theme at the end. I was very oO about that. It didn't fit at all. Avatar... well, it was pretty much what I expected. Very pretty graphics, but the story was exactly how it appeared (twists? What twists?), the Aesops were heavy-handed and it needed to do a lot of unpacking. I've been calling it SciFi Pocahontas Taken To Its Logical, Anti-Colonialism, Anti-Capitalist Conclusion. The use of Unobtainium was amusing though, and I kept getting distracted by the ears. I want ears that move!

In comics news, Fail!Comics Store has mysteriously moved, and I can't be bothered to find them again. Seeing as they regularly don't have what I'm looking for, it's really not worth the hassle to wander downtown during rush hour in order to find "the place by Chick Fillet on the left". I really do need to find another comics store. *sigh*

NaNo... Well, [personal profile] jazzypom is . No, seriously, she must have the patience of at least two, maybe three saints to slog through it. GDocs was evil and ate some of my edits (not all, which makes it much more difficult), and it doesn't like the document size and... (FLAIL) Needless to say, Jazzy is a gem and I commend her for not demanding my head on a platter, along with my eye-blinding highlighters (I BLAME OFFICE FOR THAT). Hopefully once it's posted (60k now, ashd;ajkh) my brain will feel free to wander off on other tangents, rather than continuously coming back to NaNo and my deliberately-constructed-yet-so-obvious plot holes.

[livejournal.com profile] moontear and I are co-writing a fic, though! It's a Final Fantasy XII AU, located at her FF.N. It's het! Yes, how far I have fallen. Or risen. Or, possibly, traveled around in circles quacking. I've never done a co-write before, so it's kind of an interesting experience. More on that as it happens.

Yes, this is an update about why I haven't updated.;; Whoops!

You're back! \o/ I was wondering where you went.

OMG, I loved Princess and the Frog, all the characters were super awesome. What was the theme you didn't like?

Good luck co-writing you fic, and I still am excited for your NaNo.

I went no where! I just stopped lol. I can sort of blame work—beginning of a new semester, etc etc, except I know that doesn't count as an excuse.

The entire closing credits made me confused. The art style was completely wrong and clashed with the movie, and the music was pop when the rest of the film had relied pretty heavily on jazz and blues. The song itself wasn't bad, but I was left wondering what the director had been thinking. Oh, and I cried when Ray died. ;-; I hate it when movies make me cry.

Thank you! The NaNo is definitely my priority right now. (pets it) It's my baaaaaaaby. ^^;

Ah, yes I've done that. Missed you though :D

Disney usually has pop stars sing the "I want song" of the movie (reflections, God Help the Outcasts), but since they had such a well known singer actually sing it, maybe they wanted a mainstream artist to do a song? And they went with R&B for cultural reasons I guess? And I think they went the Pixar route of doing the credits in a different style, but nothing can come close to Wall-E's art history credits.

Raaaayyyyy :((((( But he's a star in the sky. And that mean Timon from Lion King was right. And Evangeline is the second star to the right. But their stars are *~*holding*~* hands in the end. I saw it coming but ;.; And Tiana is tied with Belle for best actual princess. And Naveen is #1 prince in my mind now. And Ray! You think he's going to be so annoying but he's so wonderful. And CHARLOTTE! She's so hyper and squishy and adorable, you're just waiting for her to be all evil step-sister type but no! She's actually a good person and a good friend.

How many stories do you have on the go now anyway? And how many fandoms? I can only do one at a time here.

Awwwh. (hugs)

Maybe. I hope. It just felt very washed and bland to me. They couldn't have done something in blues? Bah. Maybe I just wanted to hear more fiddle.

The whole time after Ray was squished, I kept thinking, "It's Disney! They don't do this to me! Come on, he'll be okay! He will!" It was crushing, even if everything with him and his Evangeline worked out. LOTTY. Lotty was adorable. After the whole masquerade incident with the beignet mess, I expected her to explode or at least be upset that her chances to snag Naveen with food were ruined, and instead she was all ":< LET ME DRESS YOU UP". I am totally torn. Sleeping Beauty is my favorite Disney Princess movie, for both Nostalgia and because when I was all of four I had a boyfriend named Phillip. BUT THIS IS A BETTER MOVIE. D:

Um. (checks WiP folder) ...8 fics, plus NaNo, plus cowrite? But several of those have been tapped off to the side until I decide whether or not they're the genius I thought they were at the start. And a few prompts I want to do that you may blame [livejournal.com profile] valtyr for. For fandoms, I'm mostly active in Marvel, but I still have toes in the Kingdom Hearts pond and I dip occasionally into Final Fantasy XII. (Reading Sherlock Holmes fic doesn't count, since I've no plans to write it.)

<3

The Fairies in Sleeping Beauty were badass, and so was Malificent, but Tiana>Aurora-x-a bazillion and Shadow Man was right up there with Disney badguys. Mama Odi was also awesome, but is she more awesome then the three fairies? OMG y'all Tiana had a Mother (and was Oprah)! Only other Princess that had that was Aurora and Tiana's dad was Rhodey <3 and awesome. And Tiana had friends, like human friends, did any other princess have those? And two jobs!

SHE HAS NO TIME FOR DANCING BECAUSE SHE IS ALMOST THEEEEERRRRREEEEEE.

And Naveen is huge dork and I love him forever <3

Good lord lady, have luck with that :O and we blame [info]valtyr for most things anyway. And she's the spreader of prompts for sure.

From: [identity profile] tsukinofaerii.livejournal.com
YES. ;-; I mean, Aurora was good, but there's a reason she spend half of the movie asleep, you know. :( Mama Odi was more kickass than the fairies, but only because she doesn't get caught up on the petty blue/pink deal. (Instead, Tiana gets a nice gender-neutral pale green of which I heartily approve.) Her Daddy made me almost cry. He was so awesome! ♥♥♥

A DISNEY PRINCESS WITH A JOB. MY MIND. SHE IS BLOWN.

NAVEEN. NAVEEN NAVEEN NAVEEN. I LOVE HIM. For once, Disney didn't even bother playing around with the whole Love Is Pure And Innocent game. He was aaaaaall for the girls, and amusingly dunderheaded about it. LOVE.

I have plans to get them done one by one! The problem is that I keep getting blindsided by new and shiny ideas (frequently courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] valtyr). Supposedly, I should be able to work my way through. I hope.

I saw it listed somewhere, but basically all the Disney Princess wear Blue most of the time or their ballgowns are Blue at one point. Except Giselle got teal at one point (I <3 her to).

TWO JOBS! AND IS A CRANKY WATRESS, AND A STICK NOT -TO- DEEP IN THE MUD.

THE PROPOSAL SCENE! "TIANA!! sorry, that was loud." He minces everything! Because it's the one thing he knows how to do (that and pick up chicks and play music) and she taught it to him <3. SUCH A DUNDERHEAD, "now you are getting into the music. Do you get my joke? You see, your head is in a tuba..."

I have a deep, abiding hatred of all things pink born from an over dose when I was little, so I preferred the blue dress. But I'm glad they didn't put Tiana in blue. A green Disney dress is love. I WANT THAT DRESS.

YES. WHO IS NOT NATURALLY MADE OF GRACE AND ELEGANCE. SHE DOESN'T DANCE. HEE.

YES. And that moment when you can see that he's going to marry Lotty for Tiana was like NO NO NO YOU IDIOT ;-; Because it's so obvious that he really does have no clue, but he tried so hard! :( ALSO. HE DID NOT GET HIS MONEY BACK. He had to work! THEY had to work! As a middle class person, I feel validated!

She had that one blue one Lottie gave her, but it wasn't her choice, green and earth browns are her colours.

Her waitressing at the start was epic, and you know she's dancing in her head, dancing her way to her *~dream~*

And Lottie is all squee and ecstatic for her friend and not at all jealous. LOOK! A POSITIVE FEMALE FRIENDSHIP! WHAT. And Naveen minces things at the restaurant for his parents. NAVEEN YOU DORK. And the restaurant's name? She called it Tiana's Palace not Place like she was going to originally, but Palace. And she uses that old illustration as the menu cover <3333

It was a temporary dress, only a plot device to fool Naveen! Doesn't count!

It was! And oh, gods, her exhaustion while she was working. That is dedication.

SHE IS AWESOME. THEY ARE AWESOME. It distresses me to think of how few truly honest female friendships I can think of that aren't reflections of a mother/daughter relationship. And of course Naveen minces! He minces very well, doesn't he? (may have squeed when she saw that) AND SHE SAVES THE DAY. HE DOESN'T RESCUE HER. SHE RESCUES THEM ALL. I CAN'T-- NOT EVEN-- HAJFKDFJDK JOY. I FEEL JOY.

I so relate to her come home-collapse on bed-then out the door again in what feels like seconds-part

Every read Birds of Prey? It's DC, but the entire Gail Simone run, and most of the Dixon run, is all about female friendships. For over 5 years and 50 issues, there was not a single major romantic subplot (except for Barbera/Dinah, but that was not so subtle subtext) and it was all about 4 ladies (with guest stars) kicking ass. The art was sometimes icky, to often in the start it was way to T&A, but the stories were worthwhile. And written by a female! The last arc with Simone had a female artist as well.

JOY. I FEEL JOY.

Yes, yes. Yes. This induced a lot of RAGE in me. I have not commented re: this on my journal because I fear I will explode outrage regarding the race!fail. I was primarily disturbed because I seemed to be the only person in the theater who was even aware that this was going on. You've articulated it so well here; I feel I may have to quote you.

I counted four, four different types of fail off the top of my head that made me sputter, but almost everyone I've talked to says I'm thinking too hard. WHEN IS THINKING A BAD THING? /flail

Beginning of the semester is a bleak, soulless time, filled with people who really need to reread their instructions and a cruel, cruel lack of caffeine. You can make it through!

Date: 2010-01-19 08:02 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] deviouslint.livejournal.com
You give out instructions?? Really? I wish we received instructions. We just get advised to use Blackboard with no information as to how. At this point, though, I've gotten it to do everything I need it to do. Except teach for me. Advice? ;)

Where I come from, thinking too hard is not a bad thing. It does, however, occasionally make people scowl at you in the break room. Everyone is graciously not bringing up Avatar around me unless they want to have half my conceptual field dropped on their heads. I start muttering about racefail and genderfail and lack of analysis of stereotypes and uppity liberalism with no thought behind it, and it ends with my bemoaning that no one NOTICES these things because it's all very pretty and self-congratulations about the relevance of my scholarship.

Maybe thinking is a bad thing. Is it easier to be a not-thinking person?

I make a habit to create a tutorial for any question that crops up three times in a week. I did one this morning on turning a 18 question quiz into a 10 question Random Block pulled from aforesaid 18 questions. Fun fun. :D

Teach for you... Hm. You can load a video presentation. :D Put up an announcement to watch the presentation, list the assignment dates, then sit back and watch the learning begin! Or fail to begin, as the case may be.

People around here are used to tuning out my rants, but I keep shocking them with conversations that start "I saw Avatar this weekend" and then proceed directly south from there.

From where I sit in my comfy chair, the problem seems to be that the unexamined trope is easier, but has less value. I like movies that I take home with me to chew over. Clearly, this is a mark of insanity and I'm supposed to be satisfied with cotton candy when I want a steak. And when I'm told to expect a steak, and I get cotton candy with some garnish, I get very >:[. (Fortunately, I was forewarned about Avatar, so I've only myself to blame for watching it.)

Tutorials!

Post your good advice online! I would read it, in my crazed hunt for answers to questions about Blackboard. Like Lint said, we're just shoved in the direction of it and told to make it go--I only knew I could post videos because I heard a rumor in our grad student cubical farm a few years ago.

From: [identity profile] tsukinofaerii.livejournal.com
lol As I've said before to many others ('many others" being "Lint"), feel free to bring me any Blackboard questions you might have. We're running 7.3 over here (two updates out, but hearing the trouble 8 and 9 have caused for student privacy, I don't fret much), and I don't know what you might be pounding away at, but I might be able to recognize something and help. A lot of the Blackboard system functionality stays the same from update to update, so there's that too. (Someone stop me, I sound like a grown-up! D: )

If you really think they'll help, it would be a pretty simple matter to copypasta tutorials from Word to LJ/DW whenever they come up. I can even do screenshots. :D
