Flaming Axel Barbie

Okay, I've been feeling weird and sickish all day (possibly because Neko is and I'm somehow picking it up from 2000 miles away), but I've almost got the first Barbie-sized version of Axel's coat done. ^^ It's really a learning experience! I only have the hood and the sleeves left really, because there's no point in finishing the hems, adding a zip or worrying about lining at this point. There's just one thing.
It's red.
Really red.
And satiny.
(sweatdrop)
See, I didn't want to blow money on just the trials. I know that whatever I come up with isn't going to be great in rounds one and two, so it doesn't make sense to buy materials. That said, I used what I had laying around. In this case, a red sateen fabric. It looks... very evening gown. o.o;; I'm hoping the hood will help. Somehow.
In any case, here are pictures. They're big, so dial-up beware!
Front view

Side view - I'm going with the concept art, wherein there are definitely side seams

Functional (backwards) pocket!

Date: 2008-02-10 02:36 pm (UTC)Sorry. but it does look...VERY....evening-gown-ish. ^^;
Other then that, nice sewing on the seams there! ^^

Date: 2008-02-11 01:49 pm (UTC)Axel's evening gown. XD Gods, I want to write that now.
ahem. >.> But thank you on the seams. I'm actually pretty happy about how that came out. Now if only the pockets weren't backward. (eyes them) When the hood and sleeves are added, there shall be more pics, because I just don't get enough use out of my camera.

Date: 2008-02-11 11:32 pm (UTC)I....am suddenly overcome with this urge....to write some of my fave characters (KH and naruto....hmm, and final fantasy....) cross dressing.....
*Imagines some of the characters cross dressing* Dear lord, they should do that for pure fan service. Can you imagine the money they'd get from rabid fangirls? XD
Yes, the seams came out really well! ^^ Backwards pockets... well, Axel is soooo the trendsetter type. XD (Well, for rebels going against trendsetting. naturally. of course.)
Axel's Evening Gown with sleeves and a hood.
........Actually, I think that'd be really cool. Darnit, now I want to make one! XD *Hurries off to sketch the idea*
I like sketching fashion ideas....and mom and I create some of them, if we have the material.....But if the material isn't just perfect, I refuse to use it, so most of my ideas are just sketches. ^^;

Date: 2008-02-12 03:21 am (UTC)FAN SERVICE! Isn't that the whole point of being fans? To receive Fan Service?
I suppose the pockets would make it easier to grope his butt from the front, but does that really assistance? Maybe it's an invitation. Or he put the dress on backwards, and (lacking breast) didn't notice the odd fit? Wow, I'm rationalizing this now.
Good material is hard to find. Especially if you're doing something really specific and it has to fall just so, and have just the right color and texture and... grrr. Too many options, too many of them the wrong ones. *sigh*
If your sketches come up with anything interesting, let me know and maybe I'll put them on Barbie. This may end up being the weirdest Barbie I've seen in a while (a friend's Hooker Barbie taking the All Time record).

Date: 2008-02-12 11:26 am (UTC)YES! You receive fan service! *Grins*
Wow, I cannot believe you're rationalizing it.... but you do bring up some good topics, but those introduce so many variables into the whole situation, then...*Frowns in thought*
*Grins* WOW, a HOOKER Barbie. Well, she had it coming, i say. *Nods firmly and decisively*
Heh, well, I'll see what I can do, and let you know. ^_~

Date: 2008-02-12 03:54 pm (UTC)Well, I guess what it comes down to is the purpose of the dress. It's an evening gown, which normally is more for show than comfort. Also, it's something that's to be seen in - not to be seen taking off. Since pockets are about utility, it makes some sort of sense that gowns don't usually have them. (Thus the existence of those tiny little clutch purses which hold all the stuff that would usually go in a pocket.) Lacking pockets all together, why not put them backwards if an evening gown is going to have them at all?
We all know what Barbie does. ¬_¬ There's a reason all her clothes has velcro fastenings.
Squee! ^-^

Date: 2008-02-12 08:50 pm (UTC)Yes. Yes indeed. Definitely. And then they crack up laughing. You know, it amazes me sometimes with what Disney gets away with and is still for kids. They need to make sure people are nice and clear when speaking....like in Lion King, when Simba sings "Kings don't need advice
From little hornbills for a start" it sounds like, "Kid's don't need advice from little porn-filled horror stars". It really does; they need to watch it!
But yeah. Axel and Roxas. Riku and Sora. I mean REALLY, several fanboys/fangirls DEFINITELY slipped some things in the story line. THey just MADE them gay, I swear. XD
Something to be seen in, eh? Well, my guess is with Axel, more then a few people might see it being taken off. XD
Velcro fastenings. Yes. Definitely.
Nevertheless....Xd

Date: 2008-02-13 04:02 am (UTC)Now I want to watch the Lion King again. And I had purged that movie from thought, for the sake of a young teenage crush best left in the dust. (What what I thinking?)
... I'm probably going to end up drawing Axel in a dress sometime soon. I still haven't actually done a project with my tablet. Here, smut smut smut. It's always Roxas that ends up crossdressing, but now I really want to see Axel in something, blast it!
... I may have to mutilate a Skipper into Roxas to match Axel Barbie when I'm finished. And if I do a Roxas, I'll need a Sora... and then I'll have to figure out Riku, because Sora needs a Riku... o-o; Might as well have the set... (mutters and plots)

Date: 2008-02-13 11:56 am (UTC)...Young teenage crush left best in the dust.....what teenage crush? XD
Haha; it does, it does! Just listen to the song "Just Can't Wait To Be King"; it's in there! XD
I really want to see Axel in a dress too.....and Roxas....hmm, crossdressing together COULD be interesting; depends on their outfits, however.....
SKIPPER! XD Just kidding, lol. Skipper and Barbie; wow. That's certainly ONE pairing, heh.
Definitely, make the whole set...and then duplicates, and sell them! *Giggles*

Date: 2008-02-14 04:45 pm (UTC)JTT? Jonathon Taylor Thomas. (I think that's how it's spelled.) He was GOD when I was a kid... And now I'm quietly trying to forget, lol. It's really bad when you insist that Simba is sexy because of the young-Simba voice actor.
That that Simba's not sexy... and I'm stopping right there.
Evening gowns would be neat, but why? oO; One I could potentially grasp for various reasons (kink, undercover, etc), but both of them would need a good plot-based reason.
[sarcasm]OMG! Barbie incest! (gaspshockhorror)[/sarcasm]
I suppose Skipper could be modified into Sora too - the main difference is hair color and clothes. Riku... Hm. Need a white-haired Barbie or something, but I'm sure it can be done. Various OrgXII members would take some effort too, if I went that far...
Wow. I see this turning into a spin-off project, lol

Date: 2008-02-15 12:30 am (UTC)Well........*Blinks* Eh, I suppose I have my own reasons. One I could probably better tell if I could remember what i said in the last post. XD
Platinum blonde barbie would work decently for Riku. Better yet, just die their hair....lol.
....This could be a VERY interesting project. XD

Date: 2008-02-15 02:15 am (UTC)... lol, it's okay. I can't remember either. XD
Does Barbie do Platinum? Maybe a bleach would work... or a tint. Riku's hair is kind of purplish-white. I could work with that.
It could indeed. I guess everyone needs a hobby. :D

Date: 2008-02-15 04:40 pm (UTC)Yeah.
Definitely.
I dunno. Bleach and a bit of tint/coloring/whatever would work well, yes.
Everyone needs a hobby, eh....wonder what mine is. XD

Date: 2008-02-18 04:32 am (UTC)Poor Riku-Barbie. He's probably going to end up with purple hair. ^^;; Axel Barbie is looking kind of pinkish... the nail polish may not have been a good idea. For one, my hands look vaguely like I've recently killed someone brutally. For two, the hair now lays very strangely. oO; You'll see next set of pictures. I gave up one Attempt One, because there wasn't enough cloth to sew the hood or sleeves on. ^^;;; Oops.
Hobby, hobby, hobby... Hm. Reading is a hobby. Or a way of life. >.>

Date: 2008-02-18 05:24 pm (UTC)Riku-Barbie has purple hair......Dude, that suddenly made me think of Sora and Riku pulling a prank, something going wrong, and Riku showing up the next day at school with fire in his eyes. "SORA!" "Y-yeah, Ri?" "I'M GONNA KILL YOU!" "Huh? Wh--HOLY JENOVA, WHAT HAPPENED TO YOUR HAIR?!" "YOU DID, SORA! YOU AND YOUR STUPID IDEAS! LOOK AT MY BEAUTIFUL, SPECIAL HAIR! IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE SILVER! SILVER!! YOU'VE RUINED IT! Oh, I don't see a point in living if I can't be beautiful....my hair, my hair! *Sobs dramatically*"
Halfway through writing that I realize RIku had become Howl (from Howl's Moving Castle). XD And just HAD to go with it, haha.
Hmm. Well............interesting visual's you provided there, at least. XD I would've bought some die or something and then very carefully actually spent hours on Axel-Barbie's hair. I get really into crafts like that....*Sheepish*
Hobby? Reading? Perhaps for some. It's a way of life, for me. (My friends have learned even if you manage to get me away from my books I'll be a bit grumpy, even if I've read it before. If i haven't read it before, and you managed to tear me away, it's obviously not a very good book, and you shall not see me reading it again. *Grins*)
I think my hobby might be painting. *Laughs* I dunno. Painting things like wood is such fun for me.... or poetry could be a hobby....or.....
I dunno. I do too many things. e_e I get bored easily with one type of thing....
