You should! They can be painful, especially books 4-7 (Empire of Ivor and, Victory of Eagles are the worst for jerking the heartstrings). Having never much studied the Napoleonic Wars (American Public School, how you have failed me) it reads very fresh to me. Makes me interested in picking up a book and finding out what actually happened.
Except that IRL history didn't have dragons. That's something of a let down.
