Halloween costumes
Sep. 30th, 2008 02:24 pmI WANT MY MIDOL. WAAAH.
¬¬; Yeah, I will voluntarily sink to medicine for only one non-extreme cause, and this is it. But I forgot to put said pills in my purse this morning, so right now I'm suffering badly. Urg.
ANYWAYS. My cramping aside! I'm looking at Halloween costumes. Because even if I only wear it to work, I'm dressing up! HA. The problem is that I will wear it to work, and while I'll be hidden away in my office for most of the day, my the head of my department (that is, the man who is highly amused at my insistence in regards to annual costumes) usually requests that I keep "to the bounds of good taste".
This eliminates 99.98% of my ideas.
For the remaining 0.02% of ideas, I'm coming across a slight problem. Everything has a short skirt. Or it's ugly. (headdesk) Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against short skirts. But I'm pretty sure most of the skirts shown would be outside "the bounds of good taste" that I previously mentioned. Especially on my wide butt, which tends to make "short" ride up to "indecent". I am not a size 8. Of course, I can do something with a robe, but dressing as a witch would kind of be asking for trouble.
After a lot of thought, I think I'm going to go as American McGee's Alice. It has pretty much everything I need this year. Kind of creepy, knee-length skirt, easy to assemble, potentially inexpensive. Oh, and a reason to buy awesome boots. I could even buy a conventional Alice costume, add blood, embroidery (ψ & Ω on the pockets) and a skull to the bow and víola! Oh, and boots. Must not forget the boots. The trouble with this idea?
Everything has a short skirt. I can't even find a plain blue dress with the trademark puffed sleeves to add a pinafore to.
Is there a reason why women's costume either equals ugly/revealing? Or am I missing something? URG. Thank goodness I'm not going as a Disney Princess. I'd be either Aurora or Ariel, and they wear pink. Why does no one remember that Aurora wore blue too? Or, you know, that Briar Rose is a perfectly valid costume? Plus the short skirt issue. Even when none of them have ever been pictured wearing a skirt above the knees.
Why, America, why?
ETA: I would love to wear one of these if I thought I could get away with it. OMG SO MUCH ♥!
