Okay, I'm not sure how hard I want to pimp this, but since my reaction at the end was kind of (kind of?!) extreme, I figure that someone out there is going to love depressing themselves enough to read it avidly.
The story is Water, and I can tell you definitively that the first 8 chapters are good. It's complete at 29 chapters (over 150k word count, homg jealous). The random 1st-person/3rd-person switches threw me (one of my peeves there), but overall the story was interesting. I really liked the characterization, and the whole base plot was just made of win and fabulous.
The problem I had (and the reason why I stopped reading after chapter 8) is that I'm an impatient bitch who wants to make damn sure the story ends at least on a not-bawling-my-eyes-out note. I've refused to finish or re-read stories that make me cry. I don't like thinking back on a story (or a movie, play or picture) and thinking sad thoughts. So I jumped to the end, just to skim the last paragraph.
Ladies and gentlemen (do I have any gentlemen on here? oO), the end of story made me bawl my eyes out.
I don't cry easily. It's not that I'm stoic, I'm just very good at distracting myself. On this one, there was no distraction. It was foreshadowed and everything, but the ending just kind of slammed me in the gut. Even now it's kind of making me wibble.
So if you like awesome stories with greatly complex plot and deep characterization that also end in that gut-wrenching "this isn't right" sort of sadness, go read it. If you don't... Well, join me in my corner of 'can't read, dun wanna cry'. Seriously, if I got that attached after 8 chapters, it's probably way better than I'm giving it credit for. The only reason it's not going on my recs list is because I didn't finish. For all I know, the middle 20 chapters revert to script-format.
So go. Read and bawl, if you dare.
