Freakout ahead, cap'n!
Jan. 3rd, 2008 11:17 pmToday was going very nicely. At least until just recently, but I'll get there.
The job? It goes smoothly. Oh, and Chad (keeper of the budget and raises) is such a dork. He came into my(!!!) office and asked, "I was just doing the budget and this is going to sound like a stupid question, but what I am paying you?" It turns out, we'd never discussed my hourly. I'm actually making $11 an hour. o-o!!! And it'll go up after my trial. The morning routine already looks familiar, and my owner (Jacci) seems to like me. (She has a gundam model in her office. This makes her awesome by default.) Tomorrow I get to run things by myself for a few hours, so I'll get to test out my godliness. If it's slow, I'll also work on arranging my office, clearing out my predecessor's stuff, and generally settling in. Since I'll be on AIM all day, I may even chat a little. Definitely a good day, with goodness to follow. I think I'll really like this job. It seems a lot more cerebral than the previous one, and I'll have a lot more freedom. The hours suck when combined with an hour-long one-way commute, but any standard job would.
So on this high note, I came home. Well, sort of. There were errands. I didn't get home until 7, which makes today 12 hours from the time I pulled out of the drive to the time I pulled in. And then I had to eat dinner and clean kitchen and... long story short, I didn't get online until 10.30 or so. And what did I find.

shinigami_neko was in the ER for severe dehydration after throwing up too much from the stomach flu. And I bloody well didn't find out until right then!
Okay, I admit, I freaked, and it wasn't that big of a deal. But the thing is... it got me thinking. Who would tell all my people if something happened to me? And how would I go looking if someone I only know online vanished off my radar?
Obviously, I can't remedy other people's lack of rl info, but I can fix mine. So sometime soon I'll be posting a custom-locked post with all of my physical-world contact info and make sure that the people who really care can get at it. That way, if I vanish (gods forbid), there will be a pool of people who can start making calls. Hopefully in time to get in on the funeral or whatever. Also, if something happens to one of the people I keep up with, maybe someone else will think to drop me a phone call at work or something, so I don't (or do) panic.
It may seem like a lot... but here I am, with all of these work-based accounts just sitting there. There's no reason I can't hand the numbers and addresses out and use them. It'll take a bit of doing (as I'm still acquiring my own contact info), but I'll do it as soon as I can.
