Normally I don't post at work? Why? Day's not over yet-- no point. Plus most of my posts tend to be artistic-type things, and I don't do much of that at work. This is a special occassion. I was just almost turned into roadkill. O_O So... bit of an adrenalain rush going, and I decided that I'd record it for posterity before I lose it. 'Course, it's been over an hour, and it's not gone yet...

I was headed to work, driving south along the highway minding my own business, when a semi starts coming up behind me. We're on a downhill and he's not putting on the brakes. There's no one else on our side of the road, so I figure "Well, he'll get in the left-hand lane and pass me." He didn't. The bastard got right up on my tail. Me, in a tiny little car compared to him, decides that if he's not moving then I will. Flip on the signal and get over. I'm guessing he was either a terrible driver or completely blind, because then he got over. And being that he's now beside me he damned near runs me over. I pull into the median (going 60) to keep from being pancaked, and there's a sign in my way so I hit the breaks and do alot of "oh SHIT!"ing. My little cutlass goes into a spin, and I swear I don't know what I did, but somehow I managed to bring it out of the spin and get it stopped without hitting or being hit by anything. By the time my car stopped, I was facing south on the far side of the road. Limped my way over to the side and spent some time getting my knees back under me before checking the damage.

The amazing part? There was none. Just my frazzled nerves and a spot on the median where there used to be grass and is now mud and tire tracks. A set of nice guys with a tow truck stopped to see if I was okay, but I was able to send them on their way. After I stopped shaking (only a little tremor -- probably not even noticable if I hadn't checked), I got my car turned around a finished the drive.

And it definitely says something that I switched past/present tenses in that little narrative repeatedly. I'm usually much better than that.

Jays, I need a coffee.

Anyways, the rush. For later use in writing. It's weird. (blink) I've never been in an accident before (or anything remotely like it), so this is new. It's like someone dropped strawberry poprocks in my IV. If feelings could have a taste, it'd be sweet. Thick and just a bit crusted like warm icing left to cool. Isn't that the strangest thing? My blood's not pounding so much as it's floating in my head and falling in the rest of me. My heart, now that's still pounding. And I'm suddenly very much aware of everything around me-- including me. Huh. This is an oddly pleasant place to be, but I'm sure I'll feel like Hell when the crash comes.
