There are a couple of characters who I'd like to watch try to fit into GLBT culture. But what would make it funny and/or interesting would be how they didn't fit in.
That would be a good fic for certain characters I can think of. :D
The thing about fanfic is that in most cases, we're working within established boundaries. We can only change a character so much before they may as well be original characters with familiar faces. Sometimes, I get the feeling that part of fanfiction is being ignored in some aspects of these conversations.
In once case I went the opposite direction, and had the character thinking how "those people" weren't like him and his (male) lover. Because for that character, that kind of denial/homophobia makes sense.
Oh yeah, I just went through that one, and I still catch myself wondering if I handled it badly. It always feels horrible to me when one of my characters is a bigot (especially an internalized bigot, oi), but when that's the character we've got to work with... :\
