Somehow this wonderful thread has spawned the mental image of Confused!Steve and Mispronounciations!Tony curled up together on a couch in an otherwise dark room, watching cable TV. Tony's happily commenting on 'How it's Made', and occasionally dipping a hand back into the popcorn bowl (Steve made it originally, but the addition of Parmesan cheese was ALL Tony). Steve's angsting over whether liking THIS Tony is disloyal to the one he's more familiar with, but he's just about convinced himself that it's probably covered under a famous saying about sickness and health...
If any justification for Steve's presence here is needed, I'd explain it thus: Steve wasn't sliding in time randomly. He was pausing at the exact instants where people needed him most. People like Bucky. And Steve's mom. And Tony. Whose mind just couldn't accept a world without him.
...I'm thinking Steve probably plans to switch back to the History Channel after Tony falls asleep, though.
